[EN] Visual artist and researcher Katerina Sidorova (1991) grew up in Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. She studied political science and cultural studies in Yaroslavl. She came to The Hague (NL) for a bachelor’s degree at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), followed by a master’s degree at the art academy in Glasgow and a PhD in Yaroslavl.
Her work focuses on themes such as collective mourning, memory, war trauma, and the relationship between humans and landscape. Her installations feature a poetic, layered visual language that brings together social issues and personal experiences.
At the invitation of De Spelonk in The Hague she created Fault Line. The work consists of ceramic elements on steel cable, shaped in the form of a trench. The gray-blue walls and subtly moving forms evoke a serene atmosphere, but in reality the work refers to the scars of war and trauma in the landscape. The movement of the elements forms a message in morse code: The soil never forgets.
