[NL] Het kinetische kunstwerk Combustion Soul No.1 van Ritsert Mans is een ontmoeting met het fossiele tijdperk: een tijdperk dat welvaart bracht, maar ons ook afhankelijk maakte. De sculpturale vormen van het werk roepen associaties op met dreunende machines en ritmisch bewegende industriële lichamen, zoals jaknikkers en zuigers. Maar in plaats van herrie en geweld ademt dit werk rust.

Het gevaarte komt pas tot leven als er voorbijgangers zijn. In die subtiele interactie laat het zien hoezeer wij als mensen zelf deze wereld van fossiele kracht hebben geschapen – en blijven voeden. Zo ontstaat een stille dialoog tussen mens en techniek, verleden en toekomst.

Ritsert Mans (1988) heeft een achtergrond als schipper en ontwerper. Als kunstenaar onderzoekt hij de relatie tussen mens, natuur en techniek. Hij heeft een grote passie voor zowel de natuur als voor motoren en techniek. Die tweestrijd is een grote inspiratiebron..

[EN] The kinetic artwork Combustion Soul No.1 by Ritsert Mans is an encounter with the fossil age: an era that shaped our prosperity, but also made us dependent. The sculptural forms of the work evoke associations with pounding machines and rhythmically moving industrial bodies, such as pistons and pumpjacks. But instead of noise and violence this work breathes tranquillity.

The colossus only comes to life in the presence of passersby. In that subtle interaction, it reveals how much we, as humans, have created—and continue to fuel—this world of fossil power. Thus emerges a silent dialogue between human and technology, between past and future.

Ritsert Mans (1988) has a background as a skipper and a designer. As an artist, he explores the relationship between humans, nature, and technology. He has a great passion for both nature and for engines and technology. This conflict is a major source of inspiration
